Southern California is known for a lot of very cool things, and the natural formations you can find in the desert is definitely one of them! The Lava Tube Trail will take you on a trail through the Mojave Desert, where you can see these interesting rock formations up close. Grab a friend, your hiking boots, and plenty of water, and go explore them for yourself!
There’s an incredible place in the middle of the Mojave Desert, right off Interstate 15.
The entire elevation gain is only 62 feet, and most of that is getting into and out of the lava tube. It’s a straightforward hike, but almost entirely in the sun, so bring a hat and plenty of water.
This is a rare opportunity to see how the river of lava looked underground!
The road to get to the lava caves can be a little rough, so be prepared for some large hills and bumps. It can be done in a regular car, but it's recommended that you drive at a slower speed.
Short and sweet, this is one hike you’ll want to put at the top of your bucket list. If you’re in this lovely area, you need to see these cool formations.
