I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
Southern California, and Los Angeles in particular, is a true melting pot of cultures and this diversity carries can be experienced beautifully in the tremendous variety of cafes and restaurants. I can tell you from experience that if you are craving (or dying to try) the authentic flavors of any particular cuisine, it is highly likely you can find it here. And we found one newcomer on the food scene that is an awesome little hub of international foods in Los Angeles.
Fatty Mart is a family-owned multicultural convenience store in the Mar Vista community of Los Angeles.
Actually, convenience store only partially describes this ambitious neighborhood food spot. Yes, of course, you can find endless varieties of packaged foods and snacks, sauces and condiments, instant meals like ramen, tons of sodas and beverages, and much more. There is also a huge selection of wines and beers, from local to international.
The market is still expanding its offerings but is already popular in the neighborhood. This is probably not where you would expect a coffee bar, but you can even stop in for your favorite caffeine fix.
Fatty Mart is all about preserving the history and diverse culinary cultures that make up Los Angeles, bringing them all together in one convenient place. You can enjoy everything from traditional Taiwanese breakfasts to Vietnamese Banh Mi Sandwiches to Korean BBQ… and yes, pizza!
Not only is the pizza baked fresh to order, but even this ‘basic’ favorite also celebrates diverse cultures with options like Mole Negro, Birria, Mapo Tofu, and of course, Pepperoni.
The counters are not the only place to find a freshly-prepared meal. Make sure to peruse the deli cases for grab-and-go Mexican dishes, Japanese Bento boxes, sushi rolls, and more.
The deli cases also contain a variety of fine cheeses, prosciutto, and other goodies in case you prefer a nice charcuterie assortment.
Even the ice cream station is diverse with rotating flavors that include local favorites like Cotton Candy and Cappuccino next to internationally-inspired Pandan and Use.
This diverse marketplace is bringing local cultures together in a delicious way in Los Angeles. What do you think? Have you tried the international foods at this convenience mart? If you live in LA, you can even order from Fatty Mart online!
