I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
Remember when you were a kid and your parents took you to your favorite playground? There was the thrill of the curvy slides and poles, playing in the sand, pretending you were captain of a ship or hiding out in a fort, etc. My favorite was always the swings. The thing about playgrounds of the past, though, was that not everyone could enjoy them. Thankfully, that has changed a lot. Many playgrounds are being created or renovated to be a place for every child to enjoy. This inclusive playground in Los Angeles is the ultimate example of a space that doesn’t leave anyone out of the fun. Check it out!
Shane’s Inspiration is a California-based non-profit organization that has partnered with Landscape Structures to build accessible and inclusive playgrounds, not only here in Southern California, but around the world.
This epic play place is spread out over two acres of beautiful green space with sandy and rubberized play areas, along with lots of shades throughout to create cool areas for parents and children.
What makes this park so inclusive? Take, for example, the freestanding play elements like the We-Go-Round and OmniSpin, which feature options for sitting and standing as well as a flush base that accommodates wheelchairs.
Among the awesome features in this playground are the wide ramps and spaces between the different play elements and structures, making it easy for guests with wheelchairs and other mobility equipment, along with their caregivers, to get around and access every ride and play area.
There are even shaded, quieter areas under the larger equipment that provide respite for kids with autism and others who become overwhelmed with too much stimulation.
There are zip lines and swings with large backrests that allow all kids to enjoy them.
Interactive sensory and educational panels invite parents, kids, and caregivers to learn new things, like playing musical notes, singing songs, and even sign language! Reading prompts can be found in a variety of languages, too.
This wonderful playground teaches children to accept each other, play together, and to help and learn from each other. Have you been to Shane’s Inspiration Griffith Park?
