I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. Here on the West Coast, ice cream is always in season. From waffle cones and soft serve to chocolate-covered bars and Affogato, we just can’t get enough of it. Whether you are an old-school purist and always go for vanilla, or you live on the edge and opt for the most unusual and creative flavor option, there is something for everyone, and if you ask me, no better reason to hold a festival. To make things even sweeter, this ice cream festival in San Diego gives back in a big way.
The sweetest festival of the year, Scoop San Diego is an original local event celebrating everyone’s favorite sweet, creamy, joy-filled dessert - ice cream.
The 5th Annual Scoop San Diego Ice Cream Festival will be held in the community of North Park on Sunday, June 25, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. It is presented as a street fair on North Park Way, between 30th Street and Granada Avenue.
General Admission will include ten samples at the event. One-ounce samples at each vendor let you enjoy a variety of options before getting too full to try anything else!
Attendees also have the option of purchasing a VIP ticket which includes early access, a swag bag, mingling with ice cream chefs and access to exclusive flavors in the VIP Lounge, and of course, ten ice cream samples.
This annual event began in 2019 and has grown steadily since. In 2022, some 4,000 people attended this event and were served 55,000 samples of ice cream and gelato, with at least 100 flavors being featured.
This year, Circus Joy will be providing fun entertainment in the way of stilt-walking, street performances, acrobatics, and more. There will also be a pup station for your furry pals that include a cooling-off station, grass, water bowls, and pup treats.
Scoop San Diego is fueled by more than just a passion for ice cream. It is driven by a desire to impact the community in a positive way.
Of course, bringing the best ice cream and gelato makers in the area together for all to sample has an impact, but every year the proceeds go to benefit a different local non-profit organization. This year’s beneficiary is the San Diego Food Bank.
In addition to basic scoops, local artisans will bring their A-game with happiness-inducing creations like ice cream tacos, stuffed crepes, hand-dipped paletas, and creamy drinks.
Over 20 local ice cream and gelato vendors will come together and show off their best and most creative endeavors for you to enjoy, and to do some good while they’re at it. Do your part by coming out and enjoying a scoop… or several.
