As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Located in Southern San Diego on beautiful Coronado Island, the Hotel del Coronado is both a luxury resort and a haunted hotel! Its island location makes it unique in the Southern California city, and locals in San Diego all recognize its beautiful buildings and the famous ghost story accompanying it.
Perhaps the most famous hotel in San Diego, the Hotel del Coronado is known for its unique red roofs, its proximity to the Coronado bridge, and its well-known haunted room.
The iconic hotel, affectionately known by locals as “the Hotel Del” or simply “The Del,” is filled with supernatural lore stemming from its resident spirit.
In 1892, 24-year-old Kate Morgan checked in to the hotel in the hopes of meeting with her lover. She was by herself and became increasingly unhappy as the man did not arrive. After five days, she took her own life. Guests still feel her throughout the hotel, and there are sightings of her ghost reported frequently. Her presence is said to be palpable, especially in the room in which she stayed. Guests have felt her face near theirs, seen flickering lights and objects moving by themselves, heard footsteps, and seen items falling in the gift shop. When they fall, they are always right side up and never broken!
If you’d like to stay in Kate’s room and experience these haunted happenings yourself, make sure to book far in advance- it’s the most requested guest room in the whole hotel!
If you’d like a break from the paranormal activity, you only have to head outside!
The stunning beach will be the only thing you see from one of the beach chairs or cabanas. The tranquil atmosphere will lull you to a state of pure relaxation in the San Diego beach paradise of Coronado Island.
After a day of playing in the sand and splashing in the sea, you’ll be glad to take a seat in the beautiful Sun Deck or any of the fantastic restaurants in the resort.
Relaxing with an elegant craft cocktail is the perfect way to end your classic beach vacation day.
During the holiday season, be sure to take part in the amazing annual Skating by the Sea event!
In this one-of-a-kind experience, you can ice skate on an outdoor rink right by the ocean! Go in the evening for a truly spectacular view that you will never forget.
When you take a trip to the Hotel del Coronado, you might just feel the kind spirit of Kate Morgan in the resort, from unexplained indoor breezes to the perfect rainbow framing the hotel.
