I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
Every year, Southern California residents attend a variety of outdoor events, fairs, and festivals. They offer a chance to step out of our daily routine, enjoy some fun and entertainment, and meet people from all over the state. This colorful balloon festival in Southern California is no exception.
Established in 1983, the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival is held annually at the scenic Lake Skinner Recreational area and park. The festival grounds come alive for an entire weekend of music, food, wine and beer tasting, and of course colorful hot air balloons.
The festival grounds are tucked into the rolling green hills of Temecula Valley’s vineyards. The views in this region, from both the ground and the air, are spectacular.
Hot air balloon rides have long been a main attraction in the Temecula Valley, and this yearly celebration of flight and color has come to attract nearly 40,000 people from all over Southern California.
… or book a once-in-a-lifetime experience to soar hundreds of feet above the picturesque Temecula landscape. Early morning balloon ride tickets are available on the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival website.
Tethered balloon rides are also available for those who like to stay a bit closer to the ground. And of course, attendees have the chance to get close to these giant balloons when they are on the ground.
Another spectacular sight is the “Evening Balloon Glow” which takes place on Friday and Saturday nights, just after sunset. The balloons are tied down and inflated by propane burners which fill them with warm, bright light. Seeing them all lit up against the dark sky is something not to be missed.
It wouldn’t be a true festival without some quality entertainment. Renowned talent, including Brad Paisley, REO Speeedwagon, and Scott McCreery, will headline the festival concerts this year on the Main and Garden stages.
Seeing, or riding in, these massive balloons is an incredible experience. Have you ever been to this hot air balloon festival in Southern California? Would you go up in a balloon?
