I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
When it comes to Southern California hiking trails and walking paths, your mind may immediately go to natural places like mountains, beaches, forests, etc. But there is another kind of walking path in Oxnard, CA, that I think rivals any of those as far as a beautiful place to get some steps in – The Harbor Island Trail at Seabridge Marina. It amazes me that I don’t see more people walking here, but then again, that makes it even more perfect.
Whether you want to take a relaxing stroll or a good workout, the Harbor Island Trail is one of the most picturesque places to walk any time of day.
The entire length of Harbor Island Trail is almost six miles with several spots to begin and end your walk, so you can make it as long or short as you like. The path is paved and almost entirely flat making it accessible for families with kids, strollers, wheelchairs, etc. Anyone can enjoy this awesome area!
The paths actually wind in and around three contemporary gated communities with beautifully-manicured grounds. Though the communities are not open to the public for cars, the walking paths are.
Along the path, there are several spots with benches, airy shelters, and grassy picnic areas with tables and barbecues. Oh, and those golden-colored buildings in the distance? That’s the Seabridge Marketplace - the spot where I always start and end my walk. There are several eateries (I highly recommend a meal or Happy Hour at Raven Tavern!), coffee, smoothies, and a supermarket.
A pretty bridge crosses over the water and offers gorgeous views of the entire marina. It is no wonder you will sometimes see people having their photos taken here.
I really do think this is one of the loveliest walking paths in Southern California. Have you explored the Harbor Island Trail walking path in Oxnard, CA? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments! If you have other walking trails you would recommend, share those with us, too!
