I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
I have traveled a lot and gotten a taste of a lot of different types of cuisine around the world. I also grew up near Los Angeles, where the incredible diversity made it possible to try flavors from even more countries and cultures. Even when I try something I don’t end up caring for all that much, I love the experience of learning about and exploring the world of food. But I have never been to France, and I have honestly had very little experience with French food, so when I was invited to dine at Amour Brasserie in West Hollywood, CA, I was excited to try it and let me tell you, I’m so glad I did.
Amour West Hollywood is the newest French culinary experience in the city and whisks guests off to a charming Parisian-inspired space with multiple dining experiences.

When we stepped through the painted doors, we entered the first of three dining areas, Le Patio - a narrow candle-lit, garden-like outdoor space with velvet chairs and pillows, a tree, and a fireplace.

We were led through Le Patio to the other outdoor dining area, Le Jardin. It is a beautiful, larger space with brick walls, climbing vines, beveled mirrors, wall sconces, loads of flowers, and the beautiful Le Bar. Both outdoor dining areas feature Amour’s à la carte menu.

There are heaters throughout and when it rains - which it did when we visited - Le Patio has a clear covering that comes over the entire space. It was so cool to enjoy dining al fresco, warm and cozy, under the rain.

There is a lovely European wine list, of course, but I had to try Amour’s version of a champagne-based drink I have fallen in love with, the French 75. It was amazing. I also love that European-inspired restaurants offer sparkling water (I am not a fan of still water… I know I should be!)
The wait staff, all in elegant formal attire, were very friendly and attentive. While we perused the menu, we were served fresh bread with salted butter imported from Normandy and an amuse-bouche (don’t you just love that term?) which was a pretty and delicious bite-sized quiche.

Our server suggested an appetizer and an entree each, so for starters, I chose the Hearts of Palm with avocado and corn sauce. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect but it was the perfect blend of flavors and textures - I absolutely recommend it.

I can also tell you that the Pumpkin Soup that my friend ordered was also stellar - thick, creamy, and delightfully salty-sweet.
For my main course, I settled on the Lavender Duck Breast, served with a delicious carrot puree and vegetables. I think I have only eaten duck once before in my life and it was fried. This was a whole new experience and I was pleasantly surprised.

For dessert, we enjoyed the silky, rich chocolate mousse - with a hot Americano to balance - and the Basque cheesecake with elderberry sorbet, a grand finale indeed.
There are two other dining areas at Amour, both indoor spaces, that we got a glimpse of on our way out. The main dining room is La Salle à Manger, an elegant space where diners choose from two set tasting menus.

The final space is Le Salon Priv is a private dining room, reservable for up to 10 guests, with classic French decor. This is the one little spot where guests can choose from the à la carte or tasting menu, or request a more personalized menu.
