I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
You know those ultra-modern restaurants with highly creative dishes served over several courses of teeny one or two-bite portions that look like little works of art? Well, the restaurant we are about to peek into is the polar opposite of that. In fact, this classic steakhouse in Manhattan Beach has an almost shockingly large steak designed to share.
Arthur J in Manhattan Beach is a quintessential neighborhood steakhouse where classic favorites are served up and accompanied by dishes inspired by the chef-owner’s own roots and travels, as well as the highest quality ingredients.
This restaurant centers its food and reputation on a massive grill, employing the time-honored traditional method of cooking aged meats over a live wood fire and the smoke of smoldering white oak embers.
Arthur J takes pride in sourcing the best beef in the world and offering incredible USDA Prime, True Japanese Wagyu, and Black Angus Beef.

Get ready to share when you order the spectacular 40-ounce Tomahawk Steak, a huge dry-aged Rib Eye with incredible flavor befitting its size. A range of sauces, butters, and toppings are available including Vietnamese Caramel, Sauce Bearnaise, Buttered Lump Blue Crab, and even a Lobster ‘Surf’ Tail.
The menu calls the Tomahawk a *steak for two*, but with 40 ounces of deliciousness and some mouthwatering sides to choose from - like Vermont sharp cheddar Mac & Cheese, Butter Laden Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Broccolini, and Beef Fat Fries - this could easily be enjoyed by the whole family.
The menu also includes a lovely list of Appetizers, In-House Breads, Salads, and Soups, plus Nightly Specials and a ‘Meat of the Month.’
Pair your meal with a signature cocktail or try a glass or bottle from the incredible, extensive wine list, where each category is named after a Hollywood starlet like Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor.
The old-fashioned way of cooking is perfectly complimented by the cool, retro vibe of the dining areas and bar. Arthur J is also a perfect place for a private celebration. Private dining events can be booked in the restaurant’s Bungalow, Poolhouse, or the whole Clubhouse.
It is hard to say no to the highest quality steaks cooked the old-fashioned way. Have you been to this steakhouse in Manhattan Beach? Who would you share the massive 40-ounce Rib Eye with?
