When it comes to popular regional restaurants in Southern California, it is hard to pick one to put at the top of the list. I have memories of lunches with my family, late-night craving runs, hangouts with friends after movies, etc. at this iconic restaurant in Southern California, and I am sure many of my fellow locals have them too.

For nearly eight decades, Original Tommy’s has been serving up mouthwatering hamburgers, hot dogs, and French fries to a hungry public.

It is actually a signature topping that is probably the restaurant’s singular claim to fame. Tommy’s famous chili is absolutely crave-worthy and is served on everything else on the menu, often layered with a slab of cheese, chopped onions, pickles, and tomatoes.

That first shack still stands, with the addition of a newer building on the property. As it has been from the start, customers at this location eat standing at a counter outside or in their cars.

Of course, times have changed and the menu has expanded over the years, with additions like tamales (yes, with chili), breakfast, and more. The famous chili is still the reason many SoCal residents head for this iconic fast-food spot, and you can even purchase it to go - take it home and put in on anything you want!
