I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
We all know of restaurants that clearly cater to kids and keep them entertained. In fact, a lot of us grew up going to one particular pizza place named for a certain giant mouse (you know the one) with a huge arcade and prizes you could “buy” with tickets you won playing skeeball. As a kid, I loved it and pizza was all we ever really wanted to eat anyway, right? Well, no offense to the mouse, but for parents who are looking for something a little different to eat while the tots and teens play, I present Button Mash, a family-friendly arcade restaurant in Los Angeles that the whole family will love.
Button Mash is an unassuming strip mall restaurant in LA's Echo Park community that found itself closed for a couple of years during the pandemic. Now, with a new chef at the helm and endless entertainment for all, it is once again a haven for local families.
Never again will you say that you can only get grown-up fare *or* a fun place for the kiddos. Button Mash gives everyone what they want with food and games that will delight guests of every age and palate.
There is plenty of space but parents will love the fact that you can chill at the table with food and drinks yet still be close enough to keep an eye on the younger ones - or perhaps challenge them to a foosball tournament.
In addition to tons of vintage video games, you will find classic games like skeeball, basketball, and an entire wall of old-school pinball machines - literally something for everyone.
The chef and his crew serve up creative (perhaps wildly so) dishes with a sort of Asian-fusion flare like Honey Walnut Prawns, Brocolli Beef Ravioli, Octopus Burrata, and Penang Lamb Neck, as well as desserts like Squash Blossom Olive Oil Cake and a Banana Split with seasonal ice cream flavors and green plantain brittle. The "Bar menu" offers kid-friendly burgers, parmesan fries, and chocolate cake - all with a bit of a twist.
For the over-21 set, there is a great selection of adult beverages, including craft beers, ciders, and more.
