I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
What is it about cotton candy that is so delightful? Is it the memories of childhood excitement it evokes? Is it the association it has with the carnivals, fairs, and theme parks? Or is it the strange magic that turns sugar into billowing clouds of sweet fun? Whatever it is, you cannot tell me that cotton candy is just for kids. Or maybe it is! I mean we all have an inner child, and a visit to this sweet shop spinning unbelievable cotton candy art in Huntington Beach, CA, will bring it out.
Polar Playground is a cool dessert shop that has been going viral for its ultra-creative cotton candy characters.
There is ALWAYS a line at Polar Playground and people start lining up before the shop opens at 1 p.m. Because it takes time to make these characters, it is recommended to get in line early and consider coming during the week as opposed to the weekend when it’s busiest.
Every day there is a featured set of characters available which you will find listed on sign boards out front as well as in posts on Polar Playground’s Facebook page.
Every cotton candy character is handcrafted and made to order and the amount of detail is unbelievable. It is truly an art and part of the thrill is watching them being made.
How ridiculously cute is this sloth with a hat?! Almost too cute to eat. Customers are warned, however, that cotton candy this fresh melts and should be eaten right away. So be sure to take a quick Insta-worthy pick, then enjoy!
Even if you don’t love cotton candy, you will love seeing the creative process and awesome clouds on a stick. But you don’t have to order one. There are plenty of other yummy and creative desserts like soft serve and milkshakes that will make your visit worth it.
