Did you know Southern California was home to a 248-acre park dedicated to SoCal's abundant citrus groves?
Established in 1915, the California Citrus State Historic Park is an "open-air museum" with a mission to celebrate the unique history of SoCal's citrus industry.
When you first arrive, make sure to stop by the Visitor's Center. You can grab a map, learn fun historic tidbits about the park, and get information regarding guided tours of the citrus groves.
Guided historical tours of the citrus groves are offered every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting at 11 a.m. Not only are the tours fun and informative, but they are completely free to the public.
In addition to learning tons of history about SoCal's citrus industry, you'll also have the chance to stroll through the groves and sample citrus right off the tree.
Although oranges aren't currently in season in the citrus groves, you'll find other varietals of citrus including lemons and grapefruit that will be in season later this fall.
If you're not able to attend a group tour, you can show up at the Visitor's Center between 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and you'll be treated to a sample of citrus freshly plucked from one of the many trees on the property.
After spending some time sampling citrus and learning about SoCal's citrus history, grab a seat at one of the many picnic benches for a little rest and relaxation in the park. The citrus groves sure are a beautiful place to be on a peaceful afternoon.
