I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
The mountain town of Big Bear Lake is a popular Southern California vacation destination, offering scores of exciting activities and adventures. Visitors come to ski, hike, kayak, etc., as well as to shop and dine at The Village town center. Did you know that Big Bear Lake is also the home of an exciting Southern California bobsled run? This is one ride you will definitely want to check out.
The Alpine Slide at Big Bear Lake's Magic Mountain Recreation area is the first and only authentic bobsled experience in the state.
This family-friendly adventure begins with a chair lift to the top of the hill, where riders prepare for a thrilling downhill ride by choosing which of two cement tracks to ride down.
As you make your way to the top and at various spots along the track, you get the chance to enjoy breathtaking views of the lake and tree-lined mountains that continue to draw vacationers to the area year after year.
Children between 36 and 48 inches tall must ride with an adult. Riders over 48 inches tall can head down solo.
As you navigate down the track in your bobsled, you are in control. With hand-control brakes, you can choose to go as slow or as fast as you want, up to speeds around 30 miles per hour.
Alpine slide is open all year long. During winter months, both natural and man-made snow turn the mountain into a white wonderland with a whole new set of views and activities. The bobsled run is open year-round.
Magic Mountain is actually home to a whole range of fun activities throughout the year, including a mountain coaster, mini golf, the Soaring Eagle sky ride, a thrilling waterslide in summer, and snow tubing in winter.
Rides and activities at Magic Mountain each have their own individual hours, ticket prices, and rider requirements.
