I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
In recent years, brunch has earned its place as an actual meal, and if you are like me, one of our favorites. Southern California has endless options for a delicious brunch, but they are not all created equal. Enter Hash House A Go Go. This one-of-a-kind restaurant serves up an award-winning brunch in San Diego that you need to experience.
Hash House A Go Go serves up what they call “twisted farm food” inspired by the Midwest. This restaurant in San Diego has been providing a unique dining experience for over 20 years and has expanded to a total of 11 locations in six states.
One of the brunch staples (and doubtful reason for a lot of awards) here is the “Big O’ Pancake” - a comfort classic with a twist made big - “the steering-wheel-of-a-tractor sized big!” These rule-breakers are made with brown sugar and bananas, Snickers, Red Velvet, Butterscotch Almond, classic Buttermilk, and more.
Between the huge portions, creative flavor combos and presentation, and farm-fresh ingredients, it is not difficult to understand why the awards keep rolling in.
Probably the most popular meal at Hash House is Andy’s World Famous Sage Fried Chicken Waffle Tower, topped with smoked bacon, tomatoes, and fresh rosemary. The perfectly crispy chicken is coated in corn starch, fresh sage, corn flakes, and spices, and is featured in several other menu meals as well.
The breakfast and brunch foods do seem to dominate the scores of awards, rankings, and mentions, but I have to mention Hash House’s Twisted Stuffed Burgers, which have also won their share of awards. Every fun option features two Midwest beef burgers stuffed with a variety of delicious toppings. We dare you to take a bite out of these massive sandwiches.
