South Dakota is known near and far for its world-famous landmarks (Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, anyone?), but tourists are often surprised to learn that our outdoor recreation is also out of this world! Since there are too many lakes, trails, and parks to name, we decided to highlight one of our favorite spots, which is South Dakota’s Mina Lake State Recreation Area:
Located near the small, unincorporated Edmunds County community of Mina, the Mina Lake State Recreation Area is a surprising outdoor oasis that will transport you a million miles away from the ordinary.
Billed as being one of the first man-made lakes in northeast South Dakota, the Mina Lake State Recreation Area is home to Mina Lake, which is not only nice on the eyes but also chock-full of opportunities like fishing, swimming, boating, and various water sports.
In addition to the splish-splashing fun, Mina Lake is also home to tons of hiking opportunities, all of which come complete with beautiful views and landscapes.
The Mina Lake State Recreation Area is open year-round and costs $8 per vehicle, per day. If you decide to extend your stay, campsites start at $22 per night.
