Are you looking for a South Dakota hike that is – dare we say – downright magical? Yes, such a unicorn of a trail exists, and it even contains a beautiful stone staircase AND an antique fire tower! Where can one find this trail? Follow us as we explore South Dakota’s Rankin Ridge Trail:
Located within the stunning Wind Cave National Park, the Rankin Ridge Trail is a short and sweet 1-mile trek chock full of surprises!
Like most Wind Cave National Park trails, Rankin Ridge features a pristine Black Hills landscape complete with gigantic trees, ample wildlife, and jaw-dropping views.
While most fire towers like this are a thing of the past (thanks to airplanes and other advanced technology), Rankin Ridge is still used occasionally during extreme fire danger or following intense electrical storms.
