Do you ever feel like you need to be in more than one place at a time but have yet to figure out how to accomplish such a task? Come to find out, it IS possible to be in more than one place than once, thanks to the unique Tri-State Monument in Valley Springs:
Located at the corner of the South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa borders, the Tri-State Monument is a weathered marker that is situated just off of 268th Street.
While the exact intersection of states is technically located on the road, the Tri-State Monument can be found just off the street, making for a safer spot to stop and take pictures.
Why isn't the marker in the exact spot? In addition to the safety aspect, the original Tri-State Monument was the victim of several car accidents, as it was located in the middle of the road and seemed to take many drivers by surprise.
When you visit the Tri-State Monument, be sure also to take some time to visit charming Valley Springs: the "Front Door to South Dakota" that is also home to delicious restaurants, unique shops, and incredibly friendly residents.
Can't make it to the eastern border anytime soon? No problem, as South Dakota is home to a few other notable tri-points, including ones with Montana and North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming, Wyoming and Nebraska, Nebraska and Iowa, and North Dakota and Minnesota.
