With the new year upon us, South Dakotans are beginning to make plans, resolutions, and a list of places to travel/visit in the coming year, and we here at Only in South Dakota are thrilled to report that we know just where you should go in 2019: SoDak! Say what?! Stick with us, because there is a method to our madness, as South Dakota was just named a top travel destination for 2019:
Earlier this month, Forbes released Where To Go Next: 14 Best Places To Travel In The US In 2019 , naming South Dakota as one of their top choices!
As per the article, travel writer Katie Jackson states that "South Dakota unexpectedly blew me away when I road tripped across the country," adding that "The wonderfully tacky roadside attractions along I-90, which can easily turn a two-day trip into a week, include the world’s largest corn palace..."
Not just the world's largest, Katie, but the world's only!
"...world’s largest log chair..."
While you're visiting the world's largest log chair in Deadwood, be sure to also visit its on-site pizza restaurant. Yum!
"...a 50-foot-tall Indian woman..."
Both night and day, the beautiful Dignity: of Earth & Sky sculpture looks after her beloved state!
"...upside down fire trucks, a deer made of car parts and a huge fiberglass horse with 'Rushmore heads.'"
In addition to the fun quirks hiding along our interstates, Jackson goes on to mention other more well-known places and attractions, like Mount Rushmore, Sturgis, and Deadwood.
Also mentioned on Forbes' list were the likes of Palm Springs, California; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and Winston-Salem, North Carolina (pictured).
While we agree that everywhere mentioned is worth visiting, we do happen to think that SoDak should be at the top of everyone's travel list... amen? Amen!
