It’s time to start thinking about getting off the couch and into South Dakota’s gorgeous natural surroundings. Here’s a trail that’s a little strenuous, but well worth the effort.

The Sunday Gulch Trail is considered "Difficult" by the park service. It doesn't require technical skills, but you will traverse staircases, and the second half of the hike is straight uphill.

Older kids love this hike, because it offers so many fun challenges (and gives them a chance to get their feet wet, if they want!)
This hike has some really diverse scenery - you'll walk through stands of pines and spruce, and also see some interesting granite boulders.

This is the part that's really strenuous - you'll basically be climbing several full flights of stairs. This hike won't be great if you have knee problems.
But once you get back to the top, the views are simply amazing!

The trail is 2.8 miles long and makes a complete loop. If you still have energy, you can locate the Harney Peak trailhead, also located at Sylvan Lake, and give that one a try, too!
