If you hail from the Mount Rushmore State, you may think you have hiked all the trails and have seen all waterfalls, right? While you may have semi-experienced all the goodness that South Dakota has to offer, you have yet to really see it until you have taken this guided tour of the stunning Spearfish Canyon:
Located on the northern edge of the Black Hills, Spearfish Canyon is a deep and narrow gorge that was carved out by Spearfish Creek some 60 to 30 million years ago.
One may think of a canyon as only a geological formation, but there is more to it at Spearfish, including 1,000+ plant species, trees, and ample wildlife.
While you can always explore the area yourself (which we recommend doing at least once), you may miss most of the history and hidden features, which is where the Spearfish Canyon guided hike comes into play!
Beginning at the north end of the Canyon, the guided tour lasts approximately 3 hours and takes you through cliff faces and trees to the roads and streams, where you will learn the names and stories of the area's many natural features.
Since the Canyon offers a number of different trails to explore, your friendly guide will give you the option of which to travel based on your preference and experience.
