With Covid-19 steadily on the rise in other states, South Dakota is having to be more cautious when it comes to summertime events and attractions, leaving many of us looking for safe, yet fun things to do around the Mount Rushmore State. Are you looking for suggestions? If so, we highly recommend you climb aboard the always exciting (and even safer than usual) 1880 Train:
Running from Keystone to Hill City, the 1880 Train is a year-round train that highlights both the beauty of the Black Hills as well as the area's fascinating mining history.
Built in 1879 to transport cargo, the 1880 Train now caters to passengers of all ages and offers affordable one-way and roundtrip tickets.
In addition to their regular rides, the 1880 Train hosts several special trips and events, including Rails and Ales, Oktoberfest, and the beloved Holiday Express!
No matter the time of year, you are guaranteed to find something to love about the gorgeous Black Hills!
To ensure that guests stay safe and have a fun time while aboard, the 1880 Train has implemented new safety measures and guidelines, including the spacing (social distancing) of different families and parties, additional cleaning and disinfecting around the Depot and train, added hand sanitizing stations, and an adjusted reservation process.
The 1880 Train runs every day, with each ride lasting approximately one hour.
Admission to the 1880 Train starts at $27 for adults one-way ($32 roundtrip) and $14 for children one-way ($16 roundtrip).
