Non-Stop Snow And Cold Have Been Hitting South Dakota – And There’s More Coming

Is it just me or has winter 2018-2019 been the longest and most brutal in the history of mankind? The upper Midwest is notorious for snow and cold, but I feel as though South Dakota hasn’t been able to catch a break since the fall! Since spring is a few short weeks away, I had hope that a thaw was just around the corner, but it looks as though we may need to keep our shovels handy for at least another month:
While the Old Farmer's Almanac typically has a good idea about the upcoming seasons, it completely missed the mark this winter, as it called for above normal temperatures AND more rainfall than snow.
(Okay, so maybe this winter has been milder than past winters, but it sure doesn't feel like it to this lover of summer!)
As of this writing, it appears that SoDak will finally catch a short break in terms of precipitation, but the upcoming weeks are still slated to bring even more snow, with March 6th through the 19th calling for snow and frigid temps...
...cold with snowy periods from March 20th through the 28th...
...and finally a bit of relief with sunny and cool temperatures March 29th through the 31st.
The end is finally in sight (cue Hallelujah Chorus), but we highly recommend keeping your boots and shovel handy until those first weeks of April.
