When people think of South Dakota, fun and sandy beaches aren’t the first pictures that come to mind… crazy, right? Contrary to popular belief, South Dakota is actually home to a number of fabulous beaches (and more shoreline than Florida!), including this underrated one that you absolutely need to visit this summer:
This photo may look like it was taken in some exotic place, but would you believe that it was actually snapped right here in the Mount Rushmore State?
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to South Dakota's very own Sylvan Lake!
Located in Custer State Park, Sylvan Lake was first introduced in 1881 after a dam was built across the nearby Sunday Gulch, and has been a popular outdoor destination ever since.
Whether you enjoy hiking, fishing, or other various water sports, you will find only the best in and around Sylvan Lake!
While you cannot go wrong with anything at Sylvan Lake, the best part of all may just be its sandy beach!
If you enjoy swimming, catching rays, or even building sand castles, you are guaranteed to enjoy the beach at beautiful Sylvan Lake.
Please note: There is a $20 per day/vehicle fee to enter the park.
Sylvan Lake is located in Custer State Park and is open year-round.
