Do you prefer something a bit more – dare we say – primitive? Then you are going to love this South Dakota campground that may be the most primitive in all of South Dakota:
Tucked away within Badlands National Park is Sage Creek Wilderness, which is arguably the most overlooked part of South Dakota.
Located near Wall, Sage Creek Wilderness is a relatively quiet area that boasts not only a scenic road but also plenty of opportunities for hiking and wildlife sightings.
While sightseeing alone is reason enough to visit Sage Creek, our favorite aspect of the area may just be the camping, which is considered to be one of the best primitive sites in the state.
What is primitive camping? It is camping in the open without neighbors crowding you, running water, electricity, cell service, or plumbing of any kind, which the Sage Creek Wilderness fits to a T.
What is the primary draw of primitive camping? If you have to ask, you obviously didn't pay close attention to this picture!
As if the Sage Creek Campground could not get any better, camping on the grounds is only $22 a night and is rarely at its 96-tent capacity, making for a quiet AND affordable getaway.
