When you hear the word “Midwestern,” what comes to mind? For us, we think of good salt-of-the-earth people, delicious food, and a charming downtown area. Does this sound familiar? It should because it describes our very own Chamberlain, South Dakota!
Located in the heart of SoDak, Chamberlain is a quaint town of nearly 2,500 residents that - despite its smaller size - houses some big-time attractions!
Founded in 1881, Chamberlain got its start with the railroad and was even named after a railroad director of the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railway, which was a significant employer for the town for several decades.
While the railroad is not nearly as prominent as it once was, there are still plenty of reasons to love Chamberlain, beginning with such attractions as the Akta Lakota Museum, South Dakota Hall of Fame, and the world-famous Dignity of the Earth and Sky.
In addition to these world-class attractions, Chamberlain is oh-so-perfectly Midwestern with its old-school downtown area chock-full of local businesses, plus the Mighty Missouri River running around the town.
Midwesterners know a thing or two about great food and hospitality, and Chamberlain is no exception, especially with a wide array of restaurant selections that range from coffee shops to BBQ joints, lounges, bakeries, and grilles.
