While South Dakota may be home to some of the best landmarks in the country, we are not necessarily known for our rides, which is why we are always ready to share whenever the Mount Rushmore State is opening a new amusement attraction. In the case of today, it is the innovative new Buffalo Hunt Coaster in Rapid City, South Dakota:
Located at the popular Fort Hays Chuckwagon & Mount Rushmore Tours, the Buffalo Hunt Coaster promises something fun for everyone!
Inspired by the buffalo-hunting scene from “Dances With Wolves” (which was filmed at Fort Hays), the aptly-named Buffalo Hunt Coaster may sound fast and daunting, but is designed to be slow and enjoyable.
Maxing out at a mere 10 to 12 miles per hour, the multi-million-dollar attraction allows guests to put themselves in both history and Hollywood's shoes, as riders fly through a field of fiberglass buffalo and take aim at the attached LED lights.
In addition to target practice, the Buffalo Hunt Coaster features several hairpin turns and swinging seats and is suitable for everyone taller than 3-foot-2-inches.
