While every South Dakota trail is beautiful in its own way, there is something even more magical about a waterfall hike, which is fortunately easy to find around the Mount Rushmore State! When it comes to today’s featured hike, however, there is something even more special, which you will understand when you take the 2-mile out-and-back Roughlock Falls Trail:
Arguably one of the most loved spots in all of SoDak is Roughlock Falls and its convenient trail that takes you to the waterfall and back again!
Located just beyond Spearfish Canyon Lodge on FSR 222, the Roughlock Falls Trail is known for being one of the easiest and most rewarding treks in South Dakota, thanks to its short distance, even elevation, and jaw-dropping Black Hills landscape.
Billed as being handicap-accessible, the Roughlock Falls Trail winds through both mature trees and open forest until it arrives at the beautiful and intricate falls that make the area so popular.
Instead of just one large waterfall, Roughlock Falls is comprised of one large (over 50-feet-tall!) and several smaller falls that are created and fed by the nearby Little Spearfish Creek.
