When it comes to incredible small towns, there is no state quite like South Dakota! While some of these smaller communities are on the outskirts of metro areas, there are even more that are hiding out in the middle of nowhere. Do you want to visit one? Then check out this South Dakota town that may be remote yet is still worth the journey:
Tucked away just 15 minutes south of the North Dakota border is the small, must-visit town of Eureka.
Incorporated in 1892, Eureka (translated to "I found it!" in Greek) has always had a population of less than 2,000, yet seems significantly bigger thanks to its friendly residents and surprising attractions.
The current population of Eureka is estimated to be 848 residents.

What makes Eureka a must-visit rural town? For starters, they have many impressive festivals and events, including the annual German Russian Schmeckfest, Family Fun Nights, and Christmas in October...
Do you love kuchen? You have Eureka to thank for making it the official SoDak dessert, as the president of the Eureka Community Development Company introduced the idea to South Dakota lawmakers!
In addition to being a great place to visit, Eureka is also a wonderful place to live, thanks to its low crime rate, excellent schools, and low cost of living.
