Covered bridges are historical and charming structures scattered about the United States but are, unfortunately, harder to find around the Mount Rushmore State. While you are more likely to find covered bridges down south and out east, South Dakota is lucky in that we have at least one of these impressive structures, which is none other than the Edgemont City Park Covered Bridge.
Located in - you guessed it! - Edgemont, the Edgemont City Park Covered Bridge is a pretty-as-a-picture covered bridge that connects one side of the park with the other.
Spanning a notable 120-feet-long, 9-feet-wide, and 8-feet-high, the Edgemont City Park Covered Bridge is as surprising as it is historical, making it a true must-see in the Mount Rushmore State.
Originally constructed in the 1890s, the original Edgemont City Park Covered Bridge fell into a state of disrepair and was neither fixed nor restored until 10 years ago, when it received an impressive overhaul that can still be seen today.
In addition to the 120-foot-long covered bridge, Edgemont City Park is chock-full of activities for everyone in the family, including amazing trails, old trains, museums, campgrounds, and much more.
