After a slow and depressing summer 2020, South Dakotans everywhere are beginning to make plans to have the best summer ever! Are you, too, planning ahead and looking for a few ideas to add to your calendar? If so, you will want to pencil in the 6th annual Fall River Hot Air Balloon Festival in Hot Springs, South Dakota:
Taking place August 28th and 29th, 2021, the 6th annual Fall River Hot Air Balloon Festival is a SoDak icon... and for a great reason!
Launching each morning from the Hot Springs Airport, the Hot Air Balloon Festival features dozens of colorful balloons from all over the region, all of which are adorned in vibrant colors or fun designs.
Please note: Festival organizers recommend arriving around 5 a.m. to get a parking spot and a place to watch the launch, as seats at this free event will fill fast.
In addition to the morning launch, each evening will also consist of the Balloon Night Glow, which begins at dusk (approximately 7:30).
As if you needed another reason to visit the family-friendly event, the 6th annual Fall River Hot Air Balloon Festival will also host food and shop vendors, as well as various activities for the family, live music, and the Pioneer Museum’s Cemetery Walk at Evergreen Cemetery.
