Have you ever wished you could have been part of South Dakota’s incredible history and walked alongside dinosaurs (meaning the herbivores and the herbivores only), mined for gold, and worked as a conductor aboard one of the exciting railroads? While these times have come and gone, there is still a way to experience SoDak history firsthand, which is by visiting the Journey Museum & Learning Center:
Located in Rapid City, The Journey Museum & Learning Center is billed as being "one of the more unique museums to experience not only the history of the Black Hills but Native American culture," and is truly a can't miss!
Opened in 1997, The Journey Museum has a strong mission to preserve and explore the Black Hills history and does so with several incredible exhibits and special events.
What can you expect to see (and do) at The Journey Museum? While exhibits are continually changing, some of their iconic mainstay displays include a paleontology section, complete with real fossils, life-size dinosaur replicas, and hands-on activities...
...Sioux Indian Museum...
Featuring 5,500 pieces regulated by the United States Department of the Interior's Indian Arts and Crafts Board, the incredible Sioux Indian Museum is arguably the most complete and informative of its kind.
...And the impressive Minnilusa Pioneer Gallery.
Have you ever wondered what life was like for South Dakota's pioneer settlers? Then look no further than the Minnilusa Pioneer Gallery's old buildings, artifacts, and replicas!
