Do you have a burger bucket list? If you’re a burger connoisseur like me, you love finding little burger joints all over the state and trying them out. Here’s one in a tiny town that you definitely need to add to your list.
The tiny town of Faulkton sits along SR-212, about 100 miles west of Watertown.
Located at 109 9th Avenue South, the carousel is one of the community's most cherished spots. It was built in 1925 and still has 19 of its original 20 horses. Bob Ketterling, a beloved resident of Faulkton, purchased the carousel in 1981, and began offering free rides to residents and visitors alike. When he died in 1988, the town dubbed itself "Carousel City" in his honor. The town bought the carousel from Bob's widow, and continues to run it every year between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The community pool is another popular gathering place in this friendly little town.
Built by John and Alice Pickler in 1882, it's a three-story, 20 room mansion that hosted many events and even a few celebrities during its heydey. Tours are offered Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The other cool attraction in Faulkton? The Burger Shack. This little family-owned restaurant opened in 2005 and has been offering delicious burgers, fries, shakes. and sandwiches ever since.
The burgers here are some of the best in the entire state. The Burger Shack uses only fresh, South Dakota beef, and every burger patty is formed by hand. Local ingredients are used whenever possible.
The next time you're in Faulkton, stop by The Burger Shack for the best burger you've ever had. Or, plan a trip to town to cross this place off your bucket list!
The Burger Shack is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. during winter months; in the summer it's open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
