Do you consider yourself to be somewhat of an Anglophile? Join the club… unfortunately, traveling across the ocean is costly and time-consuming, which is why we were excited to discover the charming Anne Hathaway Cottage and Shakespeare Garden in South Dakota:
Tucked away in the quaint town of Wessington Springs, the Anne Hathaway Cottage and Shakespeare Garden is a true South Dakota hidden gem that will whisk you away from the Mount Rushmore State and into the heart of England.
Originally built in 1932 as a home for the retired Professor and Mrs. Shay, the cottage was inspired by a postcard of the original Stratford-on-Avon, which was soon followed up with the landscaping that can still be enjoyed nearly 100 years later.
Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Anne Hathaway Cottage is just as beloved now as it was at its inception and boasts everything from a thatched roof to a Tudor-style architecture and turn-of-the-century interior decor.
In addition to the cottage itself, the premise is home to the Shakespeare Garden, which features colorful flowers, shady trees, water fixtures, and plenty of space to wander around and relax.
