South Dakota Is Home To Some Of The World's Largest Doomsday Bunkers

Hypothetical (for now) situation: It’s the end of the world as we know it and zombies are infiltrating the cities and causing havoc everywhere… where does one go to hide from it and/or wait it out? Lucky for us South Dakotans, we do not have to go far, as one of the largest doomsday bunkers in the world is hiding out right here in South Dakota:

The Black Hills are typically a beautiful sight to behold but have recently been turning heads, thanks to hundreds of former military-munitions-bunkers-turned-doomsday homes being put up for sale.

Costing a mere $25,000 a pop (and an extra $1,000 a year for upkeep), these concrete and steel homes may sound cold and less-than-traditional, but are being built with comfort in mind and include separate bedrooms, bathrooms, and living areas.

In addition to the private bunkers (which can comfortably sleep 10 to 20), designer Robert Vicino will also offer shared bunks, which comes complete with your own bed and will only set you back $7,500.

As if the safe and comfortable living spaces were not enough, Vicino also included numerous practicalities, like a recyclable air-handling system for those cold South Dakota winters and battery-powered generators.

What a difference a little hard work and imagination makes, huh?
