When you think of horror movies, seemingly innocent and friendly states like South Dakota typically don’t come to mind, but it should, as we have our fair share of downright creepy places as well. Take, for instance, this spot deep in the woods of SoDak that is like something out of a horror movie:
Hiding away in the northeast corner of South Dakota is Sica Hollow State Park; a SoDak favorite that is as beautiful as it is allegedly haunted.
Like most state parks, Sica Hollow boasts memorable trails, ample wildlife sightings, and epic camping, but it's what you cannot see that is downright frightening.
Translating to "bad or evil" in Dakota Sioux, Legend has it that the area is home to a number of unexplainable occurrences, beginning with the alleged red-tinted water that once gushed out of the springs.
While the red tiny has been written off by historians as being mineral water, there are still a number of other unexplainable events, such as the sound of drums and sighting of mysterious figures.
To make matters even more macabre, the 1970s brought the disappearances of several people, who seemingly vanished without a trace.
Could it be a bear who attacked these people or something else (as a Sasquatch-like figure has also been reported to roam Sica Hollow)?
What is your theory?
Sica Hollow State Park is located at 44950 Park Rd. in Sisseton and is open year round.
