With so many world-class landmarks and incredible outdoor recreation opportunities, it should come as no surprise that South Dakota welcomes millions of tourists each year. Since we have so many visitors, it only makes sense that we also have ample rest areas, one of which may just be the coolest in the world!
Conveniently located along I-90 in Chamberlain, the Chamberlain Rest Area is unlike any other rest area you have ever visited, as it houses the fascinating Lewis And Clark Interpretive & Keelboat Center.
Featuring artifacts and an intricate replica of the 55-foot-long keel boat used by Lewis and Clark, the Chamberlain Rest Area boasts a great place to get out and stretch and learn a new thing or two!
In addition to all of the above, the Chamberlain Rest Area is also home to Dignity of Earth and Sky: an iconic 50-foot-tall stainless steel statue that honors South Dakota's indigenous Lakota and Dakota peoples.
