We all know that the Badlands are one of South Dakota’s most beloved treasures. This one enchanting trail throughout the national park might take you a bit off the normal path, but it’ll take you into breathtaking scenery and a view of the rock formations unlike any other. Lace up your boots, this hike isn’t a quick one.
Castle Trail in Badlands National Park is one of the most beautiful hikes in South Dakota.
It's easy to get off trail on this hike, as the markers are pretty spread out. If you get off track, go back and find the last marker. If you look far enough you should be able to find the next one.
Even though you might not find many other South Dakotans, you'll likely see wildlife roam such as big horn sheep, birds, and rabbits. You may even find a rattlesnake or two, so watch your step.
This hike may not offer many intense climbs, but the length of the trail and the hot sun beating down makes it an intense experience. There's not much shade on this trail, so pack lots of water and let someone know that you're embarking on a long hike.
Castle Trail is located inside Badlands National Park.
