No matter the time of year, there is nothing quite as beautiful as a perfectly landscaped garden. While South Dakotans typically have a green thumb and can produce well-manicured yards, we cannot help but awe over a garden that is not only colorful but vastly diverse. Do you know of any gardens that are both large and beautiful? We do, and it is this stunning 70-acre South Dakota botanical garden that is a sight to be seen:
Located in picturesque Brookings is the equally charming South Dakota State University and their McCrory Gardens.
Initially developed in the 1960s, McCrory Gardens has continued to grow and bloom since its inception and now houses not only flowers but an arboretum.
As if having 25 acres of fragrant flowers was not enough, McCrory also houses separate gardens and collections, ranging from sensory to rock and perennial to rose.
Do you need a quiet place to rest and rejuvenate? There is no better place to be than the 45-acre arboretum, which also offers winding trails for walking or biking!
Need another reason to visit this heavenly oasis? McCrory Gardens also hosts a number of classes and special events, all of which can be found on their website .
The McCrory Gardens and South Dakota Arboretum are open year-round, so be sure to visit every season to see the changing blooms and leaves.
Admission to the gardens is $6 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 17, and $4 for seniors 65+.
McCrory Gardens is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
