South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
We’re so proud that South Carolina is now home to one of the world’s largest attractions – the Park Circle Playground, the world’s largest inclusive playground! Having a place where children of all abilities and gifts can gather and play and interact together is important to their healthy learning, growing, and developing. It’s also crucial for the kind of society we are all seeking to build for the future, one where there is more kindness and compassion. Read on to learn more about this incredible new place to visit in North Charleston.
The Park Circle Playground is part of the larger $20 million newly reimagined and re-developed Park Circle area of North Charleston. The grand opening of the playground and ribbon-cutting ceremony was November 11, 2023.
The playground is open daily from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with restrooms available at the adjacent pavilion. There are also picnic tables available on the grounds on a first come, first served basis.
A diverse selection of elements have been incorporated into the playground, providing plenty of options that meet a variety of needs, skills, and abilities, each carefully chosen with the goal of creating an environment where the highest level of inclusion is possible!
So no matter a person's age or abilities, whether physically, socially, or mentally, this playground was designed with absolutely everyone in mind to have a place to play and have some fun while nurturing their motor skills, sensory perception, cognitive abilities, and social and emotional growth.
Covers positioned over the playground provide shade to reduce the heat from the South Carolina sun, and some areas of the ground have been covered with rubber material to create a softer place to land in those areas.
For this reason, plan for plenty of time for your visit or if you're able to visit often if you live close enough, you can gradually and methodically explore one area of the playground at a time. Everyone is sure to find some favorite elements they enjoy most!
Visit The Junction Kitchen for a delicious meal right next to Park Circle on your way to the playground or to refuel when you leave! And be sure everyone has a great water bottle to take along to stay well-hydrated, especially during the warmer months.
Have you had a chance yet to visit this playground that’s one of the world’s largest attractions?
