It’s no secret among South Carolinians that Lake Jocassee is a treasure. Created in 1973 in a partnership between Duke Energy and the State of South Carolina, the 7,500-acre lake is a sensational resource for outdoor recreation. And among its many wonderful shoreline attractions is a hidden white sandstone beach in South Carolina.
Nestled into the gorge named Jocassee, Lake Jocassee is a magical place where families can create memories to last a lifetime.
All along its 75 miles of shoreline visitors can discover awesome sights, like scores of waterfalls tumbling down the steep mountains that ring the lake.
Even though it's displayed right in plain view to those with a boat, we call it hidden because the majority of visitors to the lake will never see it. But the white sand on this beach is known to pile high and the beach itself is always changing since it's a natural landmark created by Mother Nature.
It can get a little on the busy side at times. Afterall, once you find this hidden gem you, too, will want to return each time you visit Lake Jocassee.
It's easily accessible and only approximately two miles from Devils Fork State Park. The park is shown at the bottom of this map. The white sandstone beach is marked by the red pin on the right.
