South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
When you think about places to eat where you can watch your meal cook, you probably think of some Asian-inspired restaurants and the Waffle House. It adds a different element to the whole dining experience overall, especially at the Asian restaurants where it’s both impressive and entertaining. There’s another type of restaurant where you can watch your meal cook in South Carolina that’s more of a fine dining experience that you’ll want to try, too.
The Sage Room, located on Pope Avenue on Hilton Head Island, is a restaurant loved by both locals and island visitors.
There's a small ten-person bar called the Chef’s Table, which wraps around the kitchen where you can sit and enjoy watching the chefs' culinary skills.
Have you ever watched the impressive knife skills of an experienced chef? It's quite something to see. In the time it takes some to chop up a few veggies, a professional chef is probably finished with prep for the entire dish.
Multiple chefs (often referred to as line cooks in some other types of restaurants) work in harmony to prepare every dish ordered. It's an extraordinary experience to see how well they must work together to make the magic happen.
When the owners, Matt and Carol Jording, first began talking about opening a restaurant, Matt shared his idea of an open kitchen concept with his parents. His mother asked him if he meant like the Waffle House. He had not thought of it like that but agreed it was similar in nature.
It was just important to him that guests could see the chefs cooking and the art form of what it takes to get plates out, as well as showcasing the talent of the chefs. You'll want to make a reservation if you'd like a place at the Chef's Table, but if you sit at a regular table there are television screens with a live feed from kitchen cameras so that you can still watch!
