Have you ever sat down at a restaurant, ordered your food, and then found it almost too beautiful to eat? When they say food presentation is just as important as taste, somehow we don’t think they meant making it so pretty that someone may think twice about eating it! But there’s a really neat tavern in South Carolina that serves a drink that will have you drifting away to a tropical paradise or thinking about the Van Gogh creations that inspired it. Lost in thought, you just may have to find your way back to reality to find out what it actually tastes like.
Located on Augusta Street in downtown Greenville, with additional parking in the back, Smoke on the Water is a uniquely different Southern restaurant with local beers and spirits and farm-to-table ingredients in its dishes.
The beautiful art of the late Brian Olsen, who was a popular performance painter, is showcased in the dining areas inside the restaurant, contributing to the vibrant arts scene in Greenville.
The influence of the arts continues with the menu, from which you can order this house favorite, the Van Gogh Acai Blueberry Vodka and Lemonade. Its color is perfectly the "Van Gogh blue" so common in the artist's acclaimed work. You could get lost in time for a while just admiring it!
Of course, there are plenty of other drink choices, including the Flirtini, which is Ketel One Vodka and Chambord, with a splash of cranberry and ginger ale.
And you'll have a wonderful palette of sauces to choose from: Kansas City Sweet, Low Country Mustard, Traditional Red, North Carolina Vinegar, and Habanero Hot.
Whatever you decide on, just be sure to save some room for dessert. Will you have the fruit crisp of the day, fried bananas foster, key lime pie, gluten free sour cream pound cake, fried bourboun bread pudding, or the Jack Daniels chocolate chip pecan pie shown here? Oh, my ... yummy!
