South Carolina is an ideal place for a stay-cation. With unique and fun destinations like cabins, B&Bs, haunted hotels, beachfront hideaways, campgrounds, and more, you’re never too far from your next adventure in the Palmetto State. And while roughing it in a tent in a beach-side campground is a fun way to break away for a few days, so is treating yourself to a little well-deserved luxury.
And luxury is precisely what you'll find at Two Meeting Street Inn on Charleston's Historic Battery Park, also known as White Point Gardens.
The gigantic mansions that line the famous spot on the peninsula filled with live oak trees and monuments to heroes, are among the most coveted of spots for tourists dreaming of what it may be like to step foot inside one of the huge mansions.
And the story behind this famous corner inn is just romantic enough to add some spice to your own visit. It was built in 1892 after a successful Charleston jeweler literally fell in love at first sight.
Reportedly, 2,500 invitations were sent for the couple's big wedding. And the bride's father, a wealthy merchant, presented the couple with a check for $75,000 for building a mansion at Two Meeting Street where the two would live.
Within two years the newlyweds were living in the opulent new mansion. Little did they knew their home would one day welcome other newlyweds on a regular basis.
Two Meeting Street Inn has been hosting guests since 1946. The well-appointed rooms with high ceilings and grand Southern style are a welcome retreat from the busy streets of the Historic District.
