South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
South Carolina … the birthplace of BBQ and sweet tea! And we are surely proud of this, with trails for both to help foster the enjoyment of these delicious southern traditions. While the BBQ Trail reaches through each region of our state, the Sweet Tea Trail is found in Summerville, the friendliest town in the state. One of those stops is a sweet tea hotspot in South Carolina where you can enjoy some delicious southern cuisine that’s been served there since 1944.
Eva's Restaurant is located in the heart of the charming town of Summerville, which is only about 30 minutes from Charleston. It was opened originally in 1944 by Thomas “Eddie” and Eva Hinson, but when Mr. Hinson tired of the restaurant business and turned it over to Eva, it became known as "Eva's."
Its motto is "Simply southern," and you'll see this reflected in the menu and specials served each day for breakfast and lunch. The biscuits with sausage gravy are a favorite among customers.
You'll see familiar southern phrases on the breakfast menu, such as "Bless Your Heart," which is a corned beef hash selection. Here you see, "Pardon My French," a French toast option.
Sweet tea is another given at any true southern restaurant, especially in the town that is the birthplace of sweet tea. These are sweet tea floats as a unique drink treat to enjoy at Eva's with your meal.
Now, Eva was known for her for her scratch-made desserts, and it may be hard to determine a favorite. Pictured here is the Chocolate & Pecan French Toast Bread Pudding Topped with Whipped Cream & Sweet Tea Butterscotch Bourbon Glaze.
