I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Life can get all of us down from time to time. If you’re feeling stressed and looking for a way to relax, heading out into nature can surely help. Why not head to a beautiful South Carolina state park and soak your stresses away? You can do just that at Poinsett State Park in Wedgefield.
You'll find Poinsett State Park in a narrow hilly region of Sumter County known as the "High Hills of Santee," a place where the Midlands meet the coastal plain. Here you'll notice unique and diverse landscapes as well as a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Established by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, this 1,000-acre state park provides the perfect place to escape into and immerse yourself in nature. And with a 10-acre lake, you can soak your cares and worries away as you swim and relax.
Throughout the park, you'll find nearly 26 miles of trails that are perfect for hiking or mountain biking. If you enjoy camping, there are 50 campsites as well as five cabins that were built by the Civilain Conservation Corps.
Swimming is available at the park between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Just keep in mind that there is no lifeguard on duty so swimming is at your own risk.
