South Carolina is filled with inland destinations worthy of a long, weekend visit (or even longer!) where you’re sure to find a world of rest and relaxation. One of them, Lake Marion, is often referred to as South Carolina’s “inland sea.” As the state’s largest lake, it spans 110,000 acres, with multiple locations that offer access to the lake and many amenities available along its shoreline.
One of the best places to hunker down for a long weekend or even longer, is at Santee State Park in Santee. Here, you can elect to camp in the campground, or stay in one of the waterside rondette cabins found either beside or quite literally over the lake.
Altogether, the park has a total of 30 cabins; 20 of them are situated on the shore and 10 are found on the piers over the water. You can even fish right outside your front door here.
Playgrounds are available for the little ones, and the park is filled with walking and biking trails perfect for reconnecting with nature while on your vacation.
Visitors can also take a pontoon tour of the waterlogged cypress forest the lake is so famous for. What a beautiful sight to behold!
And the park is also open for day visitors, too. However, anyone not staying the night in the park will be charged an admission fee. (See those admission fees here.)
Why leave the state when you want to get away for a few days? There are plenty of places to go in South Carolina for some rest and relaxation. Try Santee State Park… you’ll be so glad you did!
