Tucked away in the small town of Saint Helena Island, South Carolina is a national historic treasure, Fort Fremont Preserve. It’s the site where Fort Fremont was built in 1898 to defend Port Royal Naval Station on Parris Island, one of six fortifications designed to protect the southeastern coast during the Spanish-American War. It provided state-of-the-art coastal defense against new battleships and heavy cruisers. The fort was abandoned after Port Royal Naval Station was moved to Charleston and a new dry dock was opened there in 1909. The Fort Fremont property was acquired in 2004 by Beaufort County as a historical site and is considered the most haunted ruins in South Carolina. Efforts for its continued preservation and promotion are overseen by the Friends of Fort Fremont, which will be holding a harvest festival at this beautiful site loaded with history in Saint Helena Island, South Carolina.

This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, November 5th, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
