From the Upstate to the Lowcountry, South Carolina has a multitude of great spots to steal away for some peace and quiet. On a good day, a quiet spot is only minutes away making it easy to head over for some mental R&R. Here’s a quiet spot in the Upstate that’s sure to relax your mind, body and soul.
Getting to this secret spot starts with this gorgeous drive through stands of lush trees. If you're going in the fall, the colors will be phenomenal!
A short walk from the parking area in the preserve brings you to the centerpiece of this pilgrimage...
...an unforgettable stone bridge built 196 years ago in 1820!
This 120-acre heritage preserve is the perfect spot to wind down, relax and find some inner peace from the daily chaos that consumes our lives.
Wander, explore and enjoy the sounds of Little Gap Creek as she rushes under the 14-foot gothic archway.
The view from atop the structure is amazing and the sound is soothing. The bridge under your feet is the oldest bridge in South Carolina. At one point it was the main road between Columbia and Saluda Mountain. It's only open to foot traffic now.
Located only a few miles from the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway on Callahan Mountain Road, Poinsett Bridge and the road getting here make this the perfect place to steal away for some peace and quiet.
Poinsett Bridge is found in Greenville County, 24 miles from downtown Greenville and 37 miles from Spartanburg.
The kind folks at SC State Parks appreciate it when you don't confuse this soothing sanctuary with one of their state parks that has a very similar name. Poinsett State Park is located several hours from Poinsett Bridge so you can imagine how confusing the two of them will only serve to frustrate you. If you are Googling your own directions then be sure the location you're headed to is in Landrum, not Wedgefield. Here's the actual address: Callahan Mountain Rd, Landrum, SC 29356.
