Summer fun in the Palmetto State doles out many ways to get outside and play. From natural waterslides that create an outdoor oasis for the entire family to hidden beaches along the coast as well as inland, getting outside to play for a while is the best way to spend the day. During the warm summer months, escape to this calm and cool retreat along the Chattooga River near Long Creek, SC.
Many people commonly pass right on by this hidden mountain beach on the South Carolina/Georga border. They whiz by without ever knowing there is a secret, white sandy beach nestled along the shore of the bustling Chattooga River.
The Chattooga is a favorite playground for kayaking, rafting, fishing, and hiking — and in some spots: swimming.
The hidden little beach is actually located just below the parking area for outdoor enthusiasts to access the river. You can get a peek at it with the little sliver of white sand seen in the distance in this image captured from the bridge on US-76.
Perched on a section of the river that is typically more calm than other parts of the Chattooga, the beach isn't huge, but it's beautful! Imagine a few hours away from everything sinking your toes into the warm sand on this mountain beach.
The parking area is located just north of the US-76 bridge over the Chattooga River. This Google Maps link should get you there.
